Service Parts and Repair: What We Stock, and Why That Matters More Than the Purchase Price

The cost of a tool is not the purchase price. It is the purchase price plus every hour that tool is not available. That second number is the one that decides whether a tool was a good buy, and it is almost entirely determined by whether you can get parts and service.

What we keep on the shelf

Zipp stocks a large inventory of service parts, and we do it deliberately. A representative sample of what moves:

  • Nose assemblies - 202HC1 and 202HC1L for C6L lockbolts, 202HM1, 202HM1L, 202HM2 and 202HM2L for multi-grip, plus blind rivet noses across the standard sizes.
  • Vacuum components - 107113 and 214123 vacuum tube assemblies.
  • Hydraulic internals - 107301 hydraulic plunger, 107502 lower plate, 107503 front head disc, 107601 bleeding valve, 107602 valve body, 107409 inlet plug.
  • Wear items - 202505 bumper ring, 192903 retainer spring, jaw sets, seals and O-rings.
  • Fittings and accessories - whip hoses, line oilers, couplers.
  • Consumables - saw blades and abrasives, including the 317918Z-1 18-tooth bi-flex blade.

Service kits like the 0918SK, 0922SK, 1017-5SK, 1606SK, 1725SK and 1819SK bundle the parts a given tool actually needs, which saves you assembling an order from a parts diagram.

Identifying a part when you do not have the number

This is the most common call we get, and it is easy to solve.

  • Send a photo. Our technicians recognize most of what comes across.
  • Include a measurement - a caliper reading on the critical dimension resolves nearly all ambiguity.
  • Tell us the tool model if you know it. From there we can work off the parts breakdown.
  • Describe the symptom. Often the part someone thinks failed is not the one that did.

We also service tools from other manufacturers, so an unfamiliar part is not automatically a dead end.

Repair or replace?

An honest framework, and we will give you the same answer on the phone:

Repair when: the housing and cylinder are sound; the fault is seals, jaws, springs, valves or a nose; the tool is a current model with parts availability; and repair cost lands under roughly half of replacement.

Replace when: the housing is cracked or the cylinder bore is scored; the tool has been undersized for its work for years and will just fail again; the model is genuinely obsolete; or repair approaches replacement cost.

Also consider replacing when the tool never fit the job. If a 1,320 lb riveter has been asked to set 1/4" rivets since the day it arrived, rebuilding it puts you back where you started. That is a specification conversation, not a repair.

Reducing downtime before it happens

Two habits make the biggest difference:

Keep a small spares kit per tool - jaws, seal kit, one nose piece per size in use, vacuum tube if applicable. Most bench repairs then take minutes instead of days.

Standardize models across stations. Fewer models means one spares kit covers more of the floor and operators can move without retraining.
